...of course on HFH I vented about a friend of mine & coworker being murdered last night in front of her 7 year old son. Just yesterday I was cracking jokes with her.

Makes me think of the wonderful group of people that comes together for Plasterkatz, Dickens Fair, Ren Faire, Single Entendre, etc. etc.

My message to all y'all:
I LOVE YOU ALL, DON'T TAKE ANYONE FOR GRANTED, AND GO HOME AND MAKE LOVE TO YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER(S) (iffin' you got one..or more...you know what I'm sayin')

REVEL AND BATHE IN LIFE before we get snuffed like a candle. It really sucks when something like this springs out on us.

BREAUX BRIDGE, La. -- Willie Nelson and several members of his band were issued misdemeanor citations for drug possession early today during a traffic stop in Saint Martin Parish.

The traffic stop was conducted on Interstate 10 near Breaux Bridge.

Trooper Willie Williams says troopers smelled a strong odor of marijuana when the driver opened the bus door.

During a search of the bus, Williams say approximately 1 1/2 pounds of marijuana and approximately 2/10 of a pound of mushrooms were located on the bus.

The 73-year-old Nelson of Spicewood, Texas; 59-year-old Tony Sizemore of Saint Cloud, Fla.; 75-year-old Bobbie Nelson of Briarcliff, Texas; 54-year-old Gates Moore of Austin, Texas; and 50-year-old David Anderson of Dallas, Texas were issued citations for possession of mushrooms and possession of marijuana and released.

It sucks that he was busted but man, Willie is so cool. I want to be busted for drug possession at 73!

I have the coolest kid with the biggest heart around!!

Let me back track and I will explain, a few days before Christmas Ace came to me with something that was bothering her and asked me to help. She had heard about Phoenix, a pet bunny that was doused with lighter fluid and set on fire in the Bay Area last October. Phoenix survived but only after recieving third degree burns and losing both his ears all because some 19 year old sick basterd didn't have anything better to do with his time. For more about Phoenix please go to the San Francisco/Marin House Rabbit Society Home Page at www.saveabunny.com but please read this alone before you share it with a child, it is very graphic and not for little eyes.

I immedietly called all my friends and asked for help, of course when I told them this was for Ace everyone volunteered. We decided to hold a bachelor-ette auction with everyone saying they could help or they knew so-and-so who was hot and would do anything for animals/children/fun/ect.

So we all picked our jobs and went our separate ways with everyone doing what they do best. The first thing I did was look for a place to hold it. (Thank you Pine Street Bar and Grill for donating your time and space.) The next thing I did was call the House Rabbit Society and tell them what we wanted to do, they were thrilled.

Now it was time to put Ace to work, remember this is her idea. Sometimes it is hard to remember she is only 8yrs old as we go around to all the local bussinesses asking for sponsorship and donations but my once shy child is working it like a pro, lol. Every day she gets out of school, comes home and does her homework and then goes to work. Some days we pick up friends before we go out and other times we go alone but we always do the same thing.

Here is the drill:

Walk into local bussiness, ask to see a manager, wait while they find a manager, then Ace gives over the fliers Mommy has printed up with Phoenix's picture and a little about us then answers all the question she can with Mommy filling in some of the details. Then Mommy gets to watch while this little girl charms the socks off of grown men and women who can't seem to help her out enough.

Her biggest achievement was her talking the manager of Hooters in Dublin out of $350 in gift certificates including a "All You Can Eat Wings Dinner For 10 People"

Each bussiness I take Ace too takes us about 45 minutes and because she hasn't been excused from School while she does this she get's in about three or four stores a day. But that doesn't mean she only works a few hours a day on this. She was bringing home tiny hands full of change every day with stories if how her friends had given up there lunch/pocket money to help Phoenix so I went and talked to her teacher. He rocks too, he let me put in a piggy bank in the classroom so the kids could watch there money combine and grow to help Phoenix and tomorrow I get to go into the classroom and help the kids make art projects to sell at the bunny-fit. They will sell to even if I have to buy every last one of them. I am going into that class on January 30th and telling these kids there hard work and tallent made a difference.

I am also sending home with the children letters to there parents explaining what we are trying to do, how we are doing it and how there kids can help. We are also asking anybody with ideas to get ahold of us. I did make one thing clear in the letter though: what makes this special is it is a childs project she is doing with friends, lets keep it that way.

This little girl has impressed the H*** out of more then just me. I got a phone call yesterday afternoon from a big company that wants to remain unnamed but when I heard about who they were I immedietly went into a big speach of how this was not my project and this is what is being done by an 8yr old ect. ect. I spoke for about 5 minutes before the lady told me that she had called to tell me the company doesn't fund local charity's but she was so impressed she asked permission for her personally to send Ace a gift. I know what it is but I am not going to tell, it is a suprise for the bunny-fit

The biggest suprise to me is the House Rabbit Society asked for a picture they could publish on there web sight of Ace doing some of her work. Please watch there web sight at www.saveabunny.com if you are interested in more of this story. I don't know what they are doing or when it will get done but they are doing something. I think she is special but to have someone else confirm it just makes me so happy. I spoke to Marcy of the House Rabbit Society and we are trying to get Ace and Phoenix together to meet but it will be hard. You see, I don't really drive, I am a small town girl and Bay Area traffic freaks me out but Ace and I have been invited to the Society to see exactly who and what we are working to help. I know meeting Phoenix would mean the world to Ace and I am going to try to make it happen.

In the mean time we have a little over two weeks until the bunny-fit so Ace and I will continue to go door to door and bussiness to bussiness asking everyone we meet to help so if you see us stop and say "hi" but don't be suprised if you get handed a flier and asked to help us spread the word.

If you have read this and you have any inclination to help please contact me and I will get back to you as soon as possible. There is so much Ace is doing that I just couldn't talk about in here but she is working her little A** off for this.

Ace's personal goal is to make enough money that Phoenix can have the surgery he needs on what is left of his ears. They are closing up with scar tissue and need to be surgicly cleaned up so they don't fill with fluid and he can keep the hearing he has left. We are doing good but I am not sure we can do this alone.

I am personally asking everyone who reads this, as a Mother and an animal lover, to look into your heart and see if there is anything you can do to help. You may have something that can be sold at auction or maybe you can give a donation or maybe you can show up and suport Ace's cause the day of the Bunny-fit. Anything you can do would be gratefully accepted.

This started out as me humoring my daughter but it has turned into so much more. Now my friends and I are making a political statement:

...last Sunday i got into the rightmost toll lane. i swore never to get behind a motorcycle without a fastpass again, but what the hell, i wasn't in a hurry.

so of course i'm stopped where the little on-ramp cuts in and this little nerdy guy who refuses to make eye contact with me has decided to merge in front of me.

fine. still not in a hurry. i have grace to spare today. i put my foot up and turn up the music a little more.

little did i know...

so i'm next in line and the guy i let in front of me seems to be having a rather animated conversation with the toll booth operator. the booth guy hands him a slip of paper. more talking, gesturing. the nerdy guy throws the paper down on the passenger side of his car. the booth guy shrugs and spreads his hands, the international sign for, "what the fuck do you want from me?"

the big guy in the construction truck behind me gets right on my bumper and blows his horn. the booth guy looks at me. i look at him and raise my brows over my sunglasses.

the little nerd jumps out of his car and soon has all the doors and the hatch open, i see that he's searching for money, any money.

the line behind us stretches out of sight around the curve in the road.

finally he grabs a pencil and the paper the booth guy gave him and walks toward my open window, fucking pure desperation in his eyes. he's a nervous fellow anyway, i conclude. his words tumble out, "please ma'am, if you could just help me out, i don't have any money, and give me your name and address, i'll send you five dollars in the mail..."

i interrupt him to lie smoothly, "all i have is what's coming back to me from this five. you can have that."

he scrabbles in his front pocket and comes up with some change. "that'll work!" he crows as he picks out a dollar from his palm.

"here, tell the guy it's for both of us."

"okay, what's your name and address." he's got the biggest shit-eating grin on his skinny moustached face.

"it's okay. just go." i smile just warmly enough and emphasize "go." one more barrage of high-strung thanks and he does.

he fairly skips back to the toll guy and performs several more epileptic gestures accompanied by just way too much talking, finally hops in his car and jerkily pulls away.

meanwhile, i sweetly raise my palm skyward to the frustrated goon behind me and then draw up to the booth guy. "Okay?" I say. the guy nods, mustering a can-you-believe-some-people smile.

i pull away from the toll plaza and then floor it up the ramp. my new devotee is waving and mouthing words of thanks as i pass his ass. i smile and wave, queen-like in my benevolence. i hoped to never see him again. later he passes me again and waves again. i can see from his body language and posture that he's experiencing a large amount of euphoria as a result of relief of stress. i wave my clove at him and throw my volvo out of overdrive to get the fuck up the hill.

i love being the great and powerful oz.

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just saw the trailer from the new Pride and Prejudice coming out in September. Yes, its no Star Wars, but I've always been a huge Jane Austen fan and it never gets old, no matter how many times they make a movie out of the same book.

So far the A&E version (which I own on DVD) is my fav, but the trailer looks great. The only bad thing is that Elizabeth Bennett is being played by Keira Knightley, who I don't like very much but oh well.

Here's the link for anyone who remotely cares about such things. If not, more joy for me.

I Love The Big Lebowski

This is a great movie. What makes it more great, is that after you watched the first time you thought.... that was a pretty funny movie. Not sure I'd want to watch it over and over again, but pretty funny.

Then after you watch it again, you start to see it better. You realize that what you mistook as a simple script wasn't simple at all, but very detailed and just polished to make it seem simple. The camera work, the acting, the sets are all easily over-looked the first time you watch the film, but they come alive in later viewings as wonderfully understated and perfect for drawing your attention to the amazing characters.

Which is what TBL is all about anyway... the characters. Every character in the script is so well drawn that even the smaller roles like Donny or Jackie Treehorn or that crazy wierd artist guy that hangs out with Maude have very clearly drawn characters that work awesomely in contrast to the dude.

Which brings me to the star of the film. The dude. Duderino. The first and last character of his type to appear in film: The anti-Anti-hero. Himself being a mistakely simple person on the outside, introduced shopping for the perfect quart of milk. Who only shows depth when taken to extremes. The extremes resulting from a very simple mistake.

Walter is such a clearly drawn character to start the film that it takes you to the final moments to realize you had him pegged wrong. The Big Lebowski, on the surface a caring philanthropist but underneath just a horny billionaire. Maude even paints using her skin (and some climbing gear) as a brush to paint what she feels on the inside. None of these dualities and similarities about false exteriors and true meanings are even noticable in the first viewing of the film. And that what makes it so incredible.

Taken as a whole, the movie is about false exteriors. No one is who they appear to be in life and in this comedy the Coen Brothers make that point the theme of film that on its surface is a simple comedy but at its core is a comment on human nature.

There really is something beautiful and exceptional about Spring where there are seasons. I swear, just a week or two ago, everything was bare, grey and intolerable. And then, what seems like overnight, everything is alive. The trees are so green, you swear the colors are unnatural. The blooms are vibrant and pretty and there are crazy suicidal bumblebees wherever you are. Yes, suicidal, they were throwing themselves at my car. tee hee, I love suicidal bugs!! Not to mention the gigantic garden spiders that hand outside my window. I love the shiver of fear I get when they're looking at me!
Then there are the people. All of a sudden, you see people and they see you! And they're friendly!! No longer are you exiled in your own home, huddled under blankets by the furnace, trying to say warm with the oppressive Chicago windy winters. I love Spring.

First, my brother and his girlfriend come and visit me twice in one week so they can watch Empire and Jedi on the big screen. One time they even brought me dinner! Yay for family and movies.

Now this morning, I slept in till I felt like getting up, way too late, but somehow I didn't miss my train. On the way I was highly amused by the book I'm reading (Dostoyevsky's "The Idiot") and walked in the office with a silly grin on my face.

Around mid-morning, my department decided to cancel today's paid "department lunch" -- and instead they bought everyone advance tickets for opening day of Star Wars III, and cut a deal with the theater management so that we can have a block of good seats taped off! So next Thursday, we all get to leave early and go to the movies.

After lunch, I booked a flight to Boston for Labor Day and got a good deal on JetBlue -- oooh... leather seats. I booked a flight to Dallas for July too, and when I went to book a hotel there too, I found out that I could get the flight and hotel together for less than the flight alone.

Someone I haven't seen in years sent me a friend request on Tribe.

And tonight, I get to go see the Dead Hensons for free.

I <3 everything.
